VX Technologies FW-3
Advanced Scanning Capabilities Without the High Price Tag
VX Technologies has brought the world of 3D digital imaging to a host of new users. Despite its small price tag, however, the StarCam™ digitizing system regularly outperforms its peers and adds a host of unique features not available in other scanning systems.
Highly accurate 3D digital imaging
The StarCam™'s underlying technology-born out of optical range-finding-is the same as the human optic system, using stereo simultaneous images of any subject's contrast, brightness and edge cues to determine depth. The StarCam™'s range-finding technologies support the real-time collection and use of measurement data, which in turn allows for calculation of volume, distances between points, calculation of angles or curvatures, and easily export to CAD software environments. Rivaling the accuracy of many laser scanning systems, means the StarCam™ is an obvious choice for a host of different users in the reverse engineering, industrial and manufacturing space.
Combined with the company's globally patented Internal Optical Reference system, or IOR technology, StarCam™ systems are capable of calibrating at 30 times per minute. This provides unmatched measurement accuracy and consistency even through changing temperatures or on unpredictable shop floors or field environments.
Fast 3D surface capture and processing
Utilizing the state of the art VX 3D Studio Surface Suite™ software enables the StarCam™ to capture point cloud data that meets each user's unique needs. Capturing surface information is possible in as little as a fraction of a second, depending on individual requirements and settings determined by the user.
The StarCam™'s use of projected dots for studio applications (rather than the conventional approach of projected lines) also affords improved speed and accuracy when measuring finely varying surfaces and dramatically reduces measurement error.

Flexible for a range of applications
StarCam™ systems can operate in single- or multi-camera configurations. Multi-camera capability enables the digitization of, for example, a human torso, in 360 degrees. StarCam™ is based on passive, non-laser technology and has a robust and mobile exterior casing, making highly suitable for reverse engineering, CAD and manufacturing applications, among others.
A Truly Portable and Durable Digitizing Solution
VX Technologies knows that not every scanning application is the same, nor can all be completed in your shop environment. As such, they have designed the StarCam™ system to be both portable and easy to assemble, no matter where you are. Packing to fit in a single wheeled, and airline-friendly case means easy transport and lower costs. The StarCam™ casing is made from one quarter inch machined aluminum and can withstand most industrial uses.
StarCam™ systems offer fast and accurate 3D image capture and processing, and can be operated in controlled environments such as studios, or in 'field' environments where lighting and other conditions are uncontrolled. The StarCam™ supports highly accurate image acquisition and measurement for all types of environments, up close or at a distance - a capability that other light-based systems are unable to offer.
A Solution to Meet Your Needs
The StarCam™ family of advanced digitizing solutions includes cameras to meet the needs of small job shops to large-scale industrial manufacturing plants and facilities.
I. Reliable Digitizing. The StarCam™ FW-3R's rugged design is suitable for most industrial applications including reverse engineering. This portable, low cost scanning system provides rapid capture and flexibility suitable for field and shop room applications.
II. Advanced Digitizing and Consistent Accuracy. The FW-3 includes all features of the FW-3R in addition to the patented IOR self calibration mechanism, making the camera immune to lens aberrations, temperature change and mechanical shock that may occur over time. This camera also comes equipped with color surface texture mapping capabilities and multi-camera synchronization.
III. For Small Projects. VX Technologies and its partners provide scanning services for short-term projects or for those not wishing to purchase a system. Utilizing a team of expert engineers and technicians ensures that customers get the best possible results for their project needs. For more information, please contact us.
IV. Customized Machine Vision and Integrated Solutions Available. VX Technologies recognizes that not every problem can be resolved with an "off the shelf" solution and recognize the need to customize solutions on some occasions. Their StarCam™ technology has been integrated into a number of high profile projects in the past, utilizing their core team of expert engineers and programmers.
